この展示は、建築家・元木大輔とグラフィックデザイナー・髙田唯の、デザインを用いた往復書簡の記録です。複数の人間が互いに他の人間がどのようなものを制作しているかを知ることなしに自分のパートだけを制作するシュルレアリスムにおける「優美な屍骸」のゲームを彷彿とさせるこの企画は、2022年11月から約5ヶ月の間、毎週届く互いの作品に対し、元木は立体作品で、髙田は平面作品で応答を続けた記録を展示として再構築したものです。作品には一切説明を付けず、すべてが各自の解釈と想像に委ねられ、立体から平面へ、平面から立体へと、創造的な往復を繰り返しながら、予期せぬアイデアが次々に生み出されて行く過程を追体験する内容になっています。
中国杭州のtranstage galleryでの展示の反響を受け、今回東京・池尻大橋のCEKAI O!K STORE&SPACEで再開催されることとなったこの2人のデザイナーが織り成す豊かな表現世界を皆さんに体験していただくことで、デザインの新たな魅力を深掘りする機会になれば嬉しく思います。
This exhibition is a record of design-based correspondences between architect Daisuke Motogi and graphic designer Yui Takada. This project, reminiscent of the game of "exquisite corpse" in Surrealism, where multiple people create their parts without knowing what others are making, reconstructs the record of their correspondences over a period of five months from November 2022. Each week, they responded to each other's works—Motogi with 3D works and Takada with graphic works. These works have no interpretation, leaving everything to individual interpretation and imagination, which will let you re-experience the process where unexpected ideas are continually generated through a creative back-and-forth from 3D to graphic works, and from graphic back to 3D.
After receiving a positive response at the transtage gallery in Hangzhou, China, the exhibition will be held again at CEKAI O!K STORE&SPACE in Ikejiri-Ohashi, Tokyo. We hope you will experience the rich world of expression presented by these two designers and delve deeper into the new charms of design through this unique "game".
